How an artist gets into the Top 50

Nobody can put a song in the Top 50: it's counted from streams. What you can do is get as many real listeners as possible to play it in the same days. These are the steps that help, from Spotify's own rules.

  • Pitch the song to Spotify's editors

In Spotify for Artists, pitch an unreleased song at least 7 days before release. Spotify then adds it to your followers' Release Radar. A pitch doesn't guarantee an editorial playlist, and you can pitch one song at a time.

  • Collect pre-saves before release day

A pre-save adds the song to the fan's Spotify library on release day, so their first plays land on the first chart day. With an Escalium smart link, the pre-save, the streaming buttons and a player sit on one page for your bio and your ads.

  • Release on a Friday

Spotify's chart week starts on Friday, and each chart day is counted in UTC. A Friday release gives the song a full chart week from its first day.

  • Give fans videos to post

Short videos with the lyrics on screen are what fans repost on TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Escalium makes lyric videos from your song, so you have something to post every day of the release week.

  • Find playlists in your style

Independent curators make playlists by genre and mood. In Escalium Playlists you search curators and follow playlists to see when they change.

  • Don't pay for streams

Spotify's chart formula is built to leave out listening it doesn't trust. Bought streams won't move you up the chart, and they put the song at risk.

Does a Top 50 song earn more per stream?

No. A stream from a Top 50 song is paid the same way as any other stream. More streams mean more money, nothing else changes.

Questions about the Spotify Top 50

  • A set of playlists made by Spotify with the 50 most played songs on Spotify: one for the whole world (Top 50 Global) and one for each country. They are the in-app version of Spotify's daily charts.

  • Every day. Spotify counts each day in UTC and usually publishes the daily chart before 22:00 UTC the next day. Spotify doesn't say the exact hour each playlist changes.

  • By streams. A stream counts after 30 seconds of play, and Spotify then applies a formula that leaves out listening it doesn't trust. Spotify doesn't publish that formula.

  • The Global list counts everyone on Spotify. A country's list only counts listeners in that country. That's why the Top 50 Spain and the Top 50 Global often have different songs.

  • The Top 50 ranks the most played songs. The Viral 50 ranked songs that were spreading fast, by plays, shares and new listeners. Spotify removed the Viral charts in May 2026; the Viral Hits playlist is picked by its editors.

  • No. Today's Top Hits is picked by Spotify's editors. The Top 50 is counted from streams. Many songs are in both, but not always.

  • Because not every stream is eligible for the charts. Spotify filters them to protect the charts. Those filtered streams can still be paid.

  • Spotify doesn't publish a number. It depends on the country and on the other songs that day: a song gets in when it has more chart streams than the song at number 50.

  • No. Spotify's chart formula is built to leave out fake listening. Pitch your song to Spotify's editors for free, collect pre-saves and give fans videos to share.

  • No. The player on this page is Spotify's own, loaded from Spotify. Escalium doesn't read, store or change the lists, and isn't connected to or endorsed by Spotify.
