Transfer your files free with just your WiFi
Music, videos, photos and folders between your phone and your computer. Straight over your WiFi, no cables, no cloud.
- No size limit
- Original quality
- End-to-end encrypted
- iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows
Like AirDrop, but between any devices
Open a QR code on the device that receives, scan it with the other and pick what to send. The files travel straight between the two over your WiFi: nothing is uploaded to any cloud, so there is no size limit and no loss of quality.
- Nothing uploaded to a cloud
- No cables
- Nothing to install
Three steps, under a minute
With the same Escalium account open on both devices:
Open the code on the receiver
On the device that will receive (your computer, say), go to Transfer and press "Receive files on this device". A QR code and a link appear.
Scan it with the other one
Point your phone's camera at the code (or open the link on another computer). The sending page opens, signed in to your same account.
Pick and send
Choose single files or a whole folder and press Send. The other device shows the progress, and you save the files in one click.
Tip: with both devices on the same WiFi it runs at full speed.

And more

Made for big, high-quality files
No size limit
We set no limit: only the free space on the receiving device counts.
Original quality
Files arrive identical, byte for byte. Nothing is compressed or re-encoded.
Private and encrypted
The connection between your devices is encrypted (DTLS) and your files never go through our servers.
Fast on the same WiFi
On the same network it runs at your local network's speed, far faster than uploading to a cloud and downloading.
Carries on if it drops
If the connection drops (you switch networks, the screen locks), it reconnects and every file carries on where it was.
Nothing to install
It works in the browser on your phone and computer: iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows and Linux.
How your files travel
For anyone who wants to know exactly what happens to their files:
- Direct connection (WebRTC)
- The two browsers connect to each other with WebRTC, the technology behind video calls. Files go from one to the other with no middleman.
- Escalium only introduces them
- Our server only passes a few short messages so the devices can find each other (network addresses and connection keys). It never sees or keeps your files.
- Always encrypted
- WebRTC always encrypts the connection with DTLS. Nobody on your network or the internet can see what you send.
- Your account only
- Every code is unique, expires, and only the account that made it can open it.
- In pieces, resumable
- Files go in 64 KB pieces and are written to the device as they arrive (never held whole in memory): that's why huge files work and a dropped connection carries on where it was.
- Over your local network
- When both devices are on the same WiFi, the data never leaves your home or studio. Across different networks it usually works too, at your internet connection's speed.

Requirements and limits, plainly
To start
A free account
The same Escalium account open on both devices. That's what stops anyone else from using your links.
A current browser
Recent Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, on phone or computer.
Internet to pair
Both devices need a connection for a few seconds to find each other; then the files go direct.
While it sends
| Keep the page open | Leave both pages open during the transfer (the phone keeps its screen on while it sends). |
|---|---|
| Best on the same WiFi | Across different networks, some company or mobile-data networks block direct connections. If it won't connect, put both on the same WiFi. |
| Room to receive | The receiving device needs free space for the files. For huge files, receive on a computer. |
Everything you want to know
Is it really free?
Yes. Transfer is free with a free Escalium account, with no limit on files or size. You don't need a paid plan.
Do both devices need to be on the same WiFi?
It's recommended: that way it runs at full speed and the data never leaves your network. Across different networks it usually works too, but some networks (company or mobile data) block direct connections.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. They go straight from one device to the other. Our server only swaps a few short messages so the two devices can find each other; it never receives or keeps your files.
Is there a size limit?
We set none. The only limit is the free space on the receiving device. Files are written as they arrive, so very large ones work too.
Do my photos or videos lose quality?
No. They arrive identical, byte for byte. Unlike messaging apps, nothing is compressed or re-encoded.
Does it work between iPhone and Windows, or Android and Mac?
Yes. It runs in the browser, so the system doesn't matter: iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, Windows or Linux.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything works in the browser. If you use Escalium's video editor desktop app, you can receive there too.
Can I send whole folders?
Yes. On the sending device you can pick single files or a whole folder with everything in it.
What if the connection drops?
It reconnects by itself and every file carries on from where it was, without starting over.
Is it safe?
Yes. The connection is encrypted with DTLS (mandatory in WebRTC), every code is unique and expires, and only your same account can open it.
How fast is it?
As fast as your network: on the same WiFi, your local network's speed; across different networks, the slower of the two internet connections.
Can I send files straight to the video editor?
Yes. In Escalium's advanced video editor, "From another device" in My clips opens a code: what you send lands straight in your clips, with their folders. You can also send the open project to another device.
