Instagram Ads for Music

Instagram ads for music made for Reels and Stories

Instagram ads for music reach people while they scroll Reels, mostly with the sound on. Here you'll see where an ad can appear on Instagram, the three ways to pay, and how to make a Reel ad people watch. Escalium makes the vertical video and the link for your bio.

  • Vertical videos for Reels
  • A bio link that counts visits
  • Meta pixel on your smart link

Where a song gets found on Instagram

Instagram isn't one feed. Each place an ad can appear needs a different shape and a different message.

  • Reels

    9:16 · full screen · sound on

This is where people find new things. Most people watching don't follow you yet. Your ad sits between other Reels, so it should look like one. A new song usually finds its first listeners on Instagram here.

    Ad to run there

A lyric video, or a clip of you singing, that starts on the hook.

  • Stories

    9:16 · full screen · between friends

Short and personal. People tap through fast, so a clear message works best. Good for people who already know you or saw your Reel.

    Ad to run there

A release-day reminder: "Out now" and a Listen now button.

  • Feed

    4:5 or 1:1 · often muted

The classic feed, now mixed with suggested posts. More people scroll it with the sound off, so the words on screen do the work.

    Ad to run there

A lyric video, or your cover art with the key line written on it.

  • Explore

    Grid of suggestions

People in Explore are looking for something new. Ads appear after they open a post from the grid and keep scrolling.

    Ad to run there

Your Reels video. Leave Explore on when Meta picks the places for you (Advantage+).

Boost, Ads Manager or partnership ads?

Instagram gives you three ways to pay for reach. All three use Meta's ad system, but they don't give you the same choices.

  • Boost from the app

    How it works
Tap Boost on a post or Reel you already published.
    What you choose
A goal (profile visits, website visits or messages), a simple audience, a budget and how many days.
    Best for
A quick test of a Reel that's already doing well.
  • Meta Ads Manager

    How it works
A full campaign in Meta's ad tool. You choose the Instagram places, or let Meta choose (Advantage+).
    What you choose
The goal, a detailed audience, the pixel, several videos at once, and Facebook places too.
    Best for
Sending people to your smart link and asking Meta for more clicks to Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube.
  • Partnership ads

    How it works
An ad shown from a creator's account together with yours, with their permission.
    What you choose
The same as Ads Manager, using the creator's post and name.
    Best for
When a creator made a video with your song and you want more people to see it.

In Ads Manager you can also pick "Use existing post". Your ad then keeps the likes and comments your Reel already has.

How to make a Reel ad people watch

You have one second to stop people scrolling, and the rest of the video to get the tap. Five rules, and how Escalium helps with each one.

  • Start on the hook

No intro, no logo. Open on the chorus, the drop or the line, with the lyric already on screen.

  • Lyrics in the middle of the screen

Instagram puts your name, the caption and the ad's button at the bottom, and its icons on the right. Switch the preview to Instagram in the Advanced Video Editor and keep your text away from both.

  • Works with and without sound

Most Reels play with sound, but not all. Synced lyrics or captions make the video work either way. Escalium writes the lyrics for you, in 99 languages.

  • Loud enough, never distorted

In the editor, set the audio to the volume social apps use. Your ad won't sound quieter than the Reel before it.

  • Say what to do

End with a short "Listen now" or "Out now" on screen. Make it match the ad's button.

Get Instagram to play your song for free too

Ads work better when the rest of your Instagram is ready for the people they bring.

  • Put the song in Instagram's music

When your distributor sends the song to Meta, anyone can add it to their Reels and Stories. It also gets its own audio page. Use it in every post yourself, and ask fans to use it too.

  • A bio link that counts visits

Put your Escalium smart link first in your bio. People the ad sends to your profile find every platform in one tap. Escalium shows how many visits came from the Instagram app.

  • Link stickers in Stories

On release day, add a link sticker with the same smart link to a Story. Save the best Stories in a highlight, so people who arrive later still find them.

  • Collab posts

A Collab post with another artist or a creator shows on both profiles. When one does well, it's a good one to turn into a partnership ad.

See what Instagram really sent you

Meta Ads Manager tells you what the ad cost and who tapped. Your smart link tells you the rest: how many visits came, which platform each fan chose, and how many clicked, day by day.

  • Visits from the Instagram app

Escalium knows when a visit was opened inside Instagram. So visits from your bio, your Stories and your ads all show up.

  • UTM tags

Short labels at the end of a link that say where a visit came from. Use a different one for your ad, your bio and your Stories, and compare them.

  • Clicks per platform

Clicks on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube, and the share of visits that clicked one.

  • Cost per platform click

What you spent divided by platform clicks. Use this number to compare your videos.

Sources, UTM tags and countries come with full analytics, from the Creator plan. The free plan shows basic click stats for the last 7 days.

Instagram ads for music: common questions

  • Make a vertical video that starts on the hook. Send people to a smart link with your Meta pixel. Run the ad in Meta Ads Manager on Reels and Stories, aimed at fans of similar artists. Then look at what it costs to bring one person to your smart link, and how many go on to a platform.

  • Boost is fine for a quick test of a Reel that already works. For a release, Ads Manager gives you the pixel, better goals and several videos at once. You can still use your existing post as the ad.

  • As long as people keep watching. That usually means one clip of the song, built around the hook. Start strong. If you're not sure, make two lengths and keep the one people watch longer.

  • For ads, it's safest to put the audio inside your video file, not to add it from the music library. And only use music you have the rights to. Your own recording is fine; another artist's song isn't.

  • You need a professional account (creator or business) to boost posts, and a Meta ad account to run campaigns in Ads Manager. Escalium doesn't need access to either to make your videos and smart links.

  • Your smart link. Listeners choose Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube, and your pixel records who went on to listen. The same link works in your bio and your Stories.

  • Yes. The Advanced Video Editor exports in 9:16 for Reels and Stories, and in 4:5 or 1:1 for the feed. It can show Instagram's buttons and caption over your video before you export.
